Greetings from CHANGE A LIFE MINISTRIES.
Wednesday and Thursday went well for us workers as we continued serving the LORD through our daily program.
Wednesday May 2nd. The workers reported at 11am good to go for the day. The first thing we did is to clean up the building before engaging in the daily work schedule. After the clean-up , the team had a short devotion led by Beatrice owana who has previously been shy of speaking up but has now grown up and not scared anymore. She appointed Emily and Pauline to lead the team in songs and later James shared with the team from Romans 8:28.
The workers engaged in different home visits in mathare north and mathare 4a for follow-ups and also to do the redemption study. The ladies helped with preparing Ndengu and mchele (beans and rice) for the sponsored kids who normally come by the building everyday for lunch.
The staff left at 5pm, but we actually got home at 7pm because of the mvua kubwa (heavy rains) currently experienced in various parts of the country. The roads were flooded Jana (yesterday) and so sad because little Tasha, Nicole, Leon and Eugene were so little to help themselves but with the help of Emily they got to spend the night at Caro’s who lives in huruma.
I thought the little kids won’t come for lunch today, they actually arrived on time to get their lunch despite what happened yesterday. Hahahaaa….
Thursday 3rd May. The workers were ready by 11am. The devotion was led by James, he asked Emily to lead us in two songs then Willie gave a short encouragement. James went out for his evangelism mission with Willie while the girls helped with preparations for lunch. The kitchen department led by Beatrice did wonderful today because by 1pm, lunch was being served.
James came back with little mukayi who has a hole in her heart and keeps fainting whenever she walks a short distance, He found out that she didn’t have food to eat at home when he visited the family and the girl is scheduled for an operation at mater hospital tomorrow and was too weak to undergo the procedure because the mum cannot afford to feed her.
Mukayi shared lunch with the rest of the kids and it was fun to see a big smile on her face again after getting fed. Beatrice really reported very early to start preparations because of the rain factor that normally starts in the afternoon and she didn’t want the kids to be rained on today.
Everything was a success and we thank you our supporters for making this mission possible. God bless you Big. Janet Owana.
During the last week-end ,(21-22 nd April) we really had fun big time with the children’s program and really grateful to God that great blessing and opportunity to serve him.
The program commenced at 10am with a word of prayer from little Chalo Lawrence. The teachers and the teenagers helped with preparing sandwiches while kids came in one after another. By 11am everything was set and we were all good to go.
Games: The kids participated in various indoor-games under the leadership of Yvonne and Vanessa. It was fun to play games like Nilipeleka barua kwa baba ( I took a letter to my father) and mingle mingle.
Songs: At 11:50am, the kids came back together for songs . teacher Jacob was the day’s master of ceremony and chose various boys and girls to lead the rest in singing. The session was a complete success as kids were so enthusiastic and sung at the top of their teachers and so the teachers too.
Lesson: The teachers helped in dividing the classes, It really was a challenge because for the first time …………… we hit 420 mark. Space ………..space…………..space………………………… and space hakuna. (not enough). Janet’s office was overflowing with teenagers!!!Finally we were able to divide the classes .
MIDDLE CLASS.This class was taken care of by teacher Emily. She taught the class from Mark 13:28-37 about THE FIG TREE AND DAY AND HOUR UNKOWN..
BABY CLASS: The class was taught by William Mutua from Exodus 2:1-10 on the BIRTH OF MOSES.
TEENS CLASS. Janet was the moderator and continued with Tony Mauldin’s lesson about pride. She quoted proverbs 13:10 and James 4:13-17.
After the lessons, the teenagers helped with “wash your hands campaign “ to the little ones justbefore eating. The children enjoyed the bread and sandwich and thanks so much to our supporters. This is a real treat for the poor children.
ATTENDANCE;BOYS ,GIRLS AND TEENS:420
WEDNESDAY 25TH APRIL 2012.The staff reported to work by 11am. We all participated in cleaning up the building with the help of the sponsored kids.. At 12pm we had a short devotion led by peter okoth. The word of the day came from Ruth who told us a story of how her daughter Sheryl has been sickly and she took her for some tests which revealed she was Hiv Positive while Ruth is negative. Ruth got so scared because her niece Jacklyn nyambina who is also in our sponsorship program was born with the disease and might have infected Sheryl through cuts or anything else because the two girls share everything and always play together. Ruth was so Emotional and could not continue talking and so Janet took over and asked her to remain strong the sake of Sheryl as one month ago. Jmauldin was also a suspect case because he was so sick but later they discover meningitis and now he is well.
After the devotion, Jacob, Emily and Pauline met with the sponsored kids to do THANK YOU letters for their sponsors so Tony could take them back. Beatrice and Ruth went to buy food stuff to prepare lunch for the kids. As I write this, the sponsored kids are enjoying a plate of rice, beans and vegetables. Thank you our supporters for making CHANGE A LIFE program a success through your prayers, love and above all, your financial support. God bless you always.
In His Service, Janet Owana
Greetings once more from CHANGE A LIFE. The staff reported to work at 11am today. We started the day with devotion led by William Mutua who asked Beatrice to share word for the day. She taught us about “FAITH” even as we face different challenges as we go out for follow-ups.
Preparation for Saturday program. After the devotion , the team planned lessons for boys, girls and teens club. We also talked of adding a sense of humor during teaching so it becomes more enjoyable for the kids. During the week too, Janet asked the team members to walk around different stores to check on the price of bread just incase we are over paying at the bakery in Eastleigh that supplies us with SUPA LOAF for the kids. Peter discovered a store in Ruaraka by the name NAIVAS that sells the large size at Ksh. 80 over ksh. 83 at eastleigh . We opted for Naivas supermarket because of the price difference and it’s not far away from the building.
The teens class will be taught by Janet since Tony will not be around. The teens will also help with ‘wash your hands campaign’ to the little kids and help in preparation of sandwich.
At 2pm, the staff did walk around Mathare North doing invitations for tomorrow’s program as some remained behind to cook Ugali and skuma for lunch.
Thanks and be blessed. Janet Owana.

The follow-up schedule was as follows: Willie and James visited Christine and Janet , they were busy with house chores so agreed to come to church later for bible study. Pauline , Emily and Beatrice visited mama Leila who has a new borne “Maria Diana” and prayed with her because she was sick. Some of the church members in mathare 4a quit coming because of the distance but CHANGE A LIFE decided to try to win them back. They also visited Maureen and Callaghan and invited them to church. By the end of this month we hope to have a bigger number attending our worship service.

Greetings once again from CHANGE A LIFE MINISTRIES and Mathare North Church of Christ. Below is a summary of what took place today:
We began the day with a word of prayer from William Mutua. Janet Owana appointed Ruth to lead the devotion session. Pauline and Emily lead the team in songs and then Peter Okoth asked the team to share what God did for them during the Easter week-end. Everyone shared their experiences and the most touching one was the story of coach Tony and how he fell in the ditch at Kisumu. He said that he actually came out of the experience stronger because the pain he suffered could not be compared to what Jesus went through a few years back.
Janet appointed the team to go out on follow-ups in the following manner:· Beatrice and peter visited mama Sony and mercy whose kids are active members of girls club . They invited the lady to worship with us on Sundays. Pauline and James visited Matilda who was discharged from Huruma nursing home yesterday and encouraged her in God and also prayed with her. On their way back, they passed by mama Calistas who is now totally blind and got the news that she was taken to hospital. Willie and Emily visited mama Agatha, she is also sick with a growth in her neck. She is scheduled to attend an operation at Kijabe hospital next week. Jacob and Ruth visited mama Christine Robi and the lady accepted to worship with us come Sunday. On their way back they met some of our lost youth members and they encouraged them to start fellowshipping with us once more. The team also visited the Mathare 4a landside site that took place last week and killed people.
Thanks so much and may the good Lord bless you big.In his service.
Janet Owana Field Director.
Greetings from CHANGE A LIFE MINISTRIES and Mathare North Church of Christ. We thank God for the free gift of life and the wonderful Easter week-end we enjoyed with the children program. Below is a summary of last week-end’s activities:
The program commenced at 11am with a word of prayer from little Oscar. The session was led by the teenagers, Oscar, Branson and Vincent . They helped the rest of the kids into various indoor- games and singing games. At 12pm, the teachers helped with getting and arranging the kids back together for lesson and songs. Teacher Peter appointed the following kids to lead in songs:
Lavine- Yesu alitembea juu ya maji?(who walked over the waters?) Immanuel-Tuta tangaza neno lake bwana ( we shall spread the gospel all over the nations) Nyambura-Walipo muua yesu walidhani amekufa (when they crucified Jesus they thought he was dead) Felix- Paulo na sila waliomba (paul and silas) Gloria-Natengeneza safina yangu (building my ark) Murothi-Making melodies in my heart Zipporah-Shindano ya yesu yaniponya (injections of Jesus heals) Gerishon- who walked over the waters? Sony-Naskia kichwa, tumbo na mgongo (I can feel it in my body) Jesus is alive Gichuki- Gari la moto linakuja kutuchukua (Chariot of fire will come for us)
After the singing, the teachers helped with dividing the kids into their various classes. Middle age class:Lesson was ”The Widows Offering” Mark 12:35-42. This class’s lesson was taught by Jacob from the above book . The kids got to learn that the person who gives with his whole heart is the person who’s offering pleases God, rather than doing it to please men. The baby class lesson was the story of death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He also quoted 1Cor 15:1-4. The teenagers actually helped the teachers with preparing bread and peanut butter and also washing the kids hands with Dettol(hand sanitizer)
Hand sanitation campaign During the last two weeks, our C.E.O and mentor Tony Mauldin suggested the need of washing the hands of the children before serving them refreshments. We actually agreed to start the campaign immediately since most of the kids attending our programs are more of destitutes with no one to even bathe them. The “wash your hands” campaign is doing fine and now the kids know that it is not right to handle food before washing their hands. We also encouraged them to take the message home and to their neighbours.
Bread and peanut butter Bash We thank God once more for granting us the opportunity to upgrade us in terms of the snack that we offer the children.Through your support we were able to start the peanut butter and bread bash over the Easter week-end. It was amazing to see the excitement in the children’s eyes as this would go a long way in satisfying their empty stomachs over the cookies that we usually serve with Juice.God bless you big as you remember the poor of mathare by providing them with a meal and an education.
